NYGC Welcomes New Associate Faculty Member Focused on the Linkage Between Genetic Liability and Complex Traits

New York, NY  ·  January 15, 2025

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is pleased to announce the arrival of Lea Davis, PhD, a new Associate Faculty Member who holds a joint appointment with Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Davis joins NYGC with a commitment to studying the genomics of complex traits and a passion for understanding the genetic and environmental factors that shape human health and neurodiversity across populations. Her lab focuses on uncovering how genetic liability, distributed throughout the genome, contributes to complex or “polygenic” traits. Her lab’s research explores the interplay between common SNPs, rare genetic variants, and environmental influences to better understand how these factors collectively drive phenotypic diversity. Dr. Davis’ work spans a broad range of phenotypes, with a particular emphasis on psychiatric and endocrine traits, and the richness of neurodiversity in human populations. The Davis Lab’s innovative research promises to shed light on the intricate genetic and environmental dynamics underlying complex traits.

At Mount Sinai, Dr. Davis is a Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Genetics and Genomic Sciences, and Psychiatry. She is a member of the Charles Bronfman Institute of Personalized Medicine and the Scientific Director of the Sinai Million Health Discoveries Program.

Lending their expertise and ingenuity to the unique and highly collaborative research environment established at NYGC, the Davis Lab will work with all NYGC faculty and staff labs, as well as with NYGC member institutions and other research partners, to advance their research goals.
