New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed a commitment of $25 million to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research and care.
The funding would provide one of the largest sums ever invested by a state into the research of ALS, and will be used to create a program supporting various endeavors, including drug development. The Governor and her team collaborated with the New York Genome Center ALS Consortium, including Hemali Phatnani, PhD, Director of the Center for Genomics of Neurodegenerative Disease (CGND), along with Target ALS, ALS United Greater New York, the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center at Columbia University, and the University of Rochester Medical Center on this promising new proposal.
