The New York Genome Center (NYGC) welcomes Ivan Iossifov as a Core Member, Assistant Investigator.
Iossifov’s role is to ensure the success of the ongoing and the future large autism sequencing projects at the NYGC, including facilitating certain applications by collaborating with groups within or outside the NYGC that study other human diseases.
“Ivan Iossifov’s unique approach to a human genetics, ranging from autism to cancer, his exceptional intellect and his ability to collaborate, will provide an invaluable addition to the diversity at the New York Genome Center,” said Robert B. Darnell, NYGC’s President, CEO and Scientific Director. His expertise will help transform how we understand disorders such as autism.“
Iossifov grew up in Sofia, Bulgaria where he obtained an MS in Computer Science from Sofia University. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University.
His interests are in the areas of Genomics and Systems Biology and their application in the study of the etiologies of cancer and of neuropsychiatric disorders like autism and schizophrenia.
Iossifov will spend time as an Assistant Professor at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in conjunction with his association at the New York Genome Center.
