Summer Internship Program
The New York Genome Center’s Summer Internship Program and the Center for Integrated Cellular Analysis Undergraduate Summer Research Program in Single-Cell Genomics offer an intensive 8-week summer research experience for undergraduate students to receive hands-on mentorship from assigned mentors within our research laboratories, scientific groups, or administrative departments.
Program Overview
Our internship program provides invaluable exposure to genomics and our cutting-edge research, fostering collaboration with leading genomic researchers. Throughout their time at the NYGC, students focus on developing essential laboratory and research skills, preparing them for future academic or career pursuits. In addition to their internship responsibilities, NYGC interns engage in a diverse array of specially curated events and enrichment opportunities, including weekly workshops, presentations, career panels, social gatherings, and more.
Summer projects may include:
- Implementing new modules and algorithms for sequencing data analysis (sequence alignment, sequence assembly, and variant calling)
- Benchmarking and integrating new bioinformatics tools into the NYGC’s existing pipelines
- Coding standalone tools or small pipelines/workflows for sequencing data analysis
- Analyzing, summarizing, and visualizing results from sequencing datasets
- Analyzing error models of last generation sequencing technologies (e.g., Oxford Nanopore)
Our Initiative for Inclusivity
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the NYGC’s core mission. We are committed to fostering a workplace environment that is welcoming and equitable for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQIA+ status, disability, or religion. Our internship program encourages applications who belong to historically underrepresented groups in biological, computational, biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social sciences research. This includes individuals from racial and ethnic minorities, individuals with disabilities, those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and women.
