Building a Genomic Powerhouse
The NYGC is headquartered at 101 Avenue of the Americas just north of Canal Street, where the SoHo, TriBeCa, and Hudson Square neighborhoods meet.
A Story of Expansion
When the NYGC began, we had a small office near Columbus Circle and established a pilot lab at Rockefeller University, with just a couple of sequencers and a few staff members. Today, we operate a 170,000 SF cutting-edge research facility that continues to adapt as the center grows and sequencing technology changes.
Journey into Our Research Labs
Within our walls, you’ll find research labs with space to host our various member institutions. Our Technology Innovation Lab leads the development of new genomics tools and technologies, while the CLIA/CLEP clinical lab employs next-generation sequencing to perform cutting-edge tests in genetics and oncology.
In 2018, we launched JLABS@NYC, located on the center’s third floor, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Innovation and New York State. The incubator, operated by J&J Innovation, is home to 26 life science startup companies and has 35 alum companies.
Space for Innovation and Collaboration
In constructing our space, we focused on building larger collaboration and community engagement areas, such as a dedicated open-plan bioinformatics floor and an auditorium space on our first floor. This space has been critical for convening large groups – and hosting countless events, including seminars, workshops, and public lectures.
