The Simons Foundation is a private foundation based in New York City, incorporated in 1994 by James and Marilyn Simons. The foundation’s mission is to advance the frontiers of research in the basic sciences and mathematics. It sponsors a broad range of programs that aim to promote a deeper, more fundamental understanding of our world, which include advanced research in mathematics, the physical sciences, and life sciences. Specifically, the foundation supports biomedical research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, the Institute for Advanced Study and The Rockefeller University, in addition to supporting scientific investigators all over the country through the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative, which seeks to improve the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders.
